Södertälje Närodlat 2011–2014

Södertälje Närodlat (Locally Grown) was a mapping on Södertälje municipality's food production, which was run by the Diet Unit in Södertälje municipality in partnership with Farmers National Association (LRF), BERAS Implementation and Skillebyholms Vocational school.

The aim was to stimulate production of locally grown foods in the rural areas of Södertälje, using increased demand from the municipal diet unit, as well as create jobs in the countryside in food production. In addition, to optimally use land with suitable conditions for production of locally grown foods.

Among other things, the project reached the following conclusions:

  • There are opportunities to increase the consumption of locally produced food in Södertälje.
  • Organic products have a better competitive position than conventional.
  • New jobs can be created, particularly in the production of eggs and vegetables, as well as in the distribution and processing of meat.
  • Municipal procurement should be developed.

The project was funded by Leader Södertälje Landsbygd (Rural Development Programme).
